What is an SMA?
May 1, 2019
An SMA occurs when multiple patients with common needs are seen as a group. Some SMAs are for the management of chronic conditions such as Diabetes or Metabolic Syndrome. The visits are with a physician and an additional staff member, who serves as a facilitator. During your SMA you'll be able to receiving ongoing support for your chronic health conditions, change or renew prescriptions, receive test results, discuss medications and treatment options, and receive medical exams and immunizations.
All information that is discussed in the SMA is confidential. Patients who attend SMAs have the ability to share experiences and advice with one another. SMAs include individual evaluation and management of each patient, as well as counseling with the group as a whole. An SMA is 90 minutes long, allowing participants to spend extensive time with the healthcare team.
Talk with your medical provider during your routine office visit to determine if SMAs are a fit for you. You can also call us to see if there is an SMA that will address your health concerns.

Measles in Washington has caused 72 cases year-to-date. The best protection against measles is the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella viruses. The MMR vaccine protects against all strains of measles including the D8 strain found in the WA state outbreak.
Most vaccines for adults are covered under private insurance policies but some vaccines may have co-pays or deductibles. Please check with your insurance carrier for more information about your coverage.
Since 1990, Washington State has maintained a universal childhood vaccine program, providing vaccines to all kids through age 18 regardless of income. An administration fee is charged for the preparation and administration of vaccines, however that fee is usually covered by private insurance as well as Medicaid.
